[...] Feeling the need for more mobility in my computing and blogging, I recently bought an Acer Aspire One, a very small notebook computer, what’s often called a “netbook” these days. It weighs 2.2 pounds and it’s (mostly) brown. It also runs Linux and has a solid state memory thingy instead of a hard drive, so it boots up and shuts down very very quickly. Here it is with a Thinkpad T40. You can compare the Thnkpad’s 14″ not so wide screen (1400×1050) with the Aspire’s 8.9″ wide screen (1024×600) and refer to my earlier rant on wideness.
Late-breaking stats from one not so random website show this distribution of screen aspect ratios reported by visitors yesterday:
1.33:1 45% (37% is 1024x768)
1.6:1 30% (20% is 1280x800)
1.25:1 21% (all is 1280x1024)
others 4% (range from super wide, probably double-monitor setups of 2.67 or 2.5:1 all the way down to some kind of mobile device at 320x396 or about 0.8:1)
