I got an ice cream sandwich from the freezer. Not actually an ice cream sandwich, but one of those soy-based fake ice cream ones, but it was a real sandwich. Although it was half-sized. Usually I eat two at a time.
I unwrapped it, put it on a plate on edge, and took a paring knife and cut it in half right through the middle of the fake ice cream. Flopped the halves on their sides and added a smear of organic peanut butter. Reassembled. Ate.
Revelatory. Truly.

As I often say, there oughtta be a law. But I tried it. And it did in fact taste remarkably like a sweet kugel. My taste runs more to the savory version, which is probably not a good idea for an ice cream. The guy in line behind me bought a quart. I had coffee oreo with peanut butter sauce. It takes all kinds.

Those last couple of posts seemed kinda eggheaded, so here’s Pizzeria al Puffo in Muggia. “Pizza a taglio” is “pizza by the slice” but I have no explanation for ether the smurf or the wheelbarrow. Right here in Cambridge, there’s a place that serves puffo (”smurf”) gelato. Go figure.

Struggling to read, speak and understand the local language is part of the fun of travelling, but being completely unable to pronounce the word for ice cream is just plain cruel. That’s not the name of the shop, that’s the name of the frosty dessert. And 10 Slovak Korun is less than 50 cents!
